Washington Defeats Immaculata, Falls to Rowan
GLASSBORO, N.J. -- The Washington College volleyball team split a pair of matches at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., today. The Shorewomen (6-3) opened the day with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-14, win over Immaculata before falling to host Rowan, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15.
Washington had little trouble dispatching of the Mighty Macs as the lead changed hands just four times in the entire match. Washington hit .235 as a team as sophomore outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, Md./River Hill) led the way with nine kills, three service aces, and nine digs. Freshman outside hitter Caitlin Cooney (Gaithersburg, Md./Covenant Life School) added seven kills against no errors in 14 attempts, while freshman right-side hitter Alexis Jordan (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge) added 11 digs and three blocks and freshman defensive specialist Audrey Utchen (San Ramon, Calif./Monte Vista) contributed a team-best 13 digs. Senior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) added 21 assists for the Shorewomen. Jamie Rombach pounded down 10 kills for Immaculata, while Molly Truit had 15 digs.
The Shorewomen hit just .017 in the loss to Rowan. Lee had eight kills and 10 digs in the loss, while Utchen had 10 digs of her own and White had 19 assists. Morgan Mende led Rowan with 10 kills, while Casey Grasso piled up 21 digs. Rebecca Dantonio added 24 assists.
The Shorewomen open Centennial Conference play Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. match at Johns Hopkins.
