Shorewomen Go 2-1 at Catholic U. Quad Match

K. Lee Pounds Down 46 Kills in Three Matches

WASHINGTON, DC -- Freshman outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, MD/River Hill) piled up a total of 46 kills as the Washington College volleyball team went 2-1 at a quad match hosted by Catholic University today. The Shorewomen (5-7) opened the day with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-16, win over Lancaster Bible. They then swept Ohio Christian, 25-15, 25-23, 30-28, before falling to Catholic, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20. 

In the Shorewomen's sweep of Lancaster Bible, Kristen Lee had a then career-high and match-high 14 kills against only three errors in 34 attempts and a career-high tying 13 digs. Junior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) added 29 assists and nine digs and served five of the team's 12 aces in the match. Senior middle hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) added seven kills and two blocks in the win. Lauren Daniels (11 kills, six digs, three blocks) and Lauren Heliger (11 kills, 17 digs) led the way for the Chargers in the losing effort. 

The Shorewomen raced out to an 11-1 lead in the first set of their win over Ohio Christian and then rallied from an 18-10 deficit to win the second set before pulling out the win in the extended third set. Freshman middle hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) had a strong match for Washington, racking up a career-best 14 kills against no errors in 22 attempts. Kristen Lee equalled her career high of 14 kills and added 12 digs, while White tallied 28 assists and seven digs and Jenny Lee contributed four blocks and six kills. Senior defensive specialist Kaitlin Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus) had a team-best 13 digs in the contest. The Trailblazers were led by Olivia Davis, who tallied nine kills, 14 digs, and four blocks. Katy Helmuth had nine kills of her own, while Danielle Wipert added seven kills and 15 digs. 

In Washington's loss to Catholic, Kristin Lee surpassed the 14 kills she recorded in each of the first two matches of the day by pounding down a career-high 19. She added a career-high tying 13 digs for her third double-double of the day. Jenny Lee added 11 kills, while White had 33 assists, 10 digs, and five kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Kate Liccione (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) chipped in 10 digs. Claudia Jean led Catholic with 11 kills and 15 digs, while Katie Chefalas had seven kills and 14 digs. Kristina Purcell aded 12 digs for the Cardinals.

The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with their home and Centennial Conference opener, a 7:00 p.m. match against Bryn Mawr.
