Lee Pounds Down 12 Kills, Serves Five Aces
GLENSIDE, PA -- Junior middle hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) recorded match highs of 12 kills and five service aces as the Washington College volleyball team swept host Arcadia, 25-16, 25-18, 27-25, tonight in Glenside, PA. The Shorewomen (4-1) have now won each of their past four matches, their longest win streak since winning the first five matches of the 2009 season.
Washington had little trouble in the first two sets, but trailed, 15-11, in the third before rallying to tie the score three times and eventually build a pair of late three-point leads, including a 24-21 advantage. Arcadia (0-2) scored the next three points to tie the set at 24-24 on a kill by Anissa Nurse. Senior Emily Hudson (Sparks, MD/Hereford) put the Shorewomen back in front with a kill to make it 25-24, then committed a service error to tie the score at 25-25. A Lee kill on the next point gave the Shorewomen another match point and an attacking error by Arcadia's Melissa D'Arcangelo finished things off.
Sophomore setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MDHuntingtown) added 27 assists and four kills for the Shorewomen, while Emily Hudson had six kills and four aces. Freshman defensive specialist Kate Liccione (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) led all Shorewomen with eight digs.
D'Arcangelo and Hailey Barger had eight kills a piece for Arcadia, while Jessyca Stoler tallied 21 assists and 13 digs and Krista Hsu finished with 12 digs.
The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a pair of matches at Wesley College - a 4:00 p.m. match against the Wolverines and a 6:00 p.m. match against Delaware Valley.
