Women's Swimming Season Preview

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The 2019-20 Washington College women's swim team will be the first for the Shorewomen with head coach Mark Hill at the helm. Hill, a former assistant coach at the College who went on to have a highly-successful run as a Division I assistant coach, will guide a roster that returns 13 of 19 swimmers from last year's team.

Four of those 13 returning swimmers are seniors - Alex Searles (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman), Lindsay Wiecki (Bristow, Va./Osbourn Park), Savannah Quade (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus), and Ana Reynoso-Zimmerer (San Diego, Calif./High Tech). Searles ranks eighth all-time for the Shorewomen in the 100 breaststroke and 10th in the 200 breaststroke. She has scored points in breaststroke events five times at Centennial Conference Championship meets. Wiecki ranks as the Shorewomen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 200 butterfly and has scored points in both of those events at past conference championship meets. Quade is the Shorewomen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 backstroke and has placed in that event at a Centennial Conference Championship meet. Reynoso-Zimmerer provides the Shorewomen with depth in breaststroke and freestyle events.

Allison Gallagher (Saunderstown, R.I./Exeter-West Greenwich Regional) is the Shorewomen's top junior. She ranks eighth in school history in the 200 backstroke and has scored in that event at each of the past two Centennial Conference Championship meets. Lindsay Strauss (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) and Kamdyn Finney (Ellicott City, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) complete the junior class. Strauss was among the Shorewomen's fastest swimmers in the 100 butterfly and 400 individual medley last season, while Finney primarily competes in freestyle events.

The Shorewomen's sophomore class is its largest, boasting six swimmers. Anna Hall (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) is the Shorewomen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 individual medley and sixth-fastest ever in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events. She finished sixth in the 200 butterfly and seventh in the 100 butterfly at last year's conference championships. Teresa Draves (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) ranks fifth all-time for the Shorewomen in the 200 breaststroke, sixth in the 400 individual medley, and 10th in the 100 backstroke. She scored points in both the 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley as a freshman at the Centennial Conference Championships. Alexa Luecke (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) is the Shorewomen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events and scored points in the 1650 freestyle and 400 individual medley at last year's conference championships. Alison Buckwalter (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), Emily Homer (Lavallette, N.J./Manasquan), and Sylvie Randall (Media, Pa./Penncrest) complete the sophomore class. Buckwalter finished 16th in the 1650 freestyle at last year's conference championships, Homer was the Shorewomen's third-fastest breaststroke swimmer last season, and Randall ranked among the Shorewomen's top-five fastest swimmers in the 1000 freestyle last season.

Five freshmen join the Shorewomen's returners on this year's roster - Kristina Curley (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), Alex May (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney), Sydney Mika (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air), Shannon Salandy (York, Pa./Central York), and Daria Shirokova (Zelenograd, Russia/GBOU School No. 1353).

Hill is joined on the Shoremen's coaching staff by second-year assistant coach Phil Quick and student assistant Bailey Reigel. Reigel swam for the Shorewomen for three years before injuries curtailed her career. They will guide the Shorewomen through a challenging schedule culminating with the 2020 Centennial Conference Championships in late February.
