Barry Makes 11 Saves
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Host Gettysburg scored three times in the second half to break open a 1-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-0 win over visiting Washington College in a Centennial Conference women's soccer match at Clark Field on Saturday night. The Bullets improve to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen drop to 2-5-1 and 0-3-0 respectively.
The Bullets got onto the board at the 40:23 mark of the first half when Shannon Brady scored from the side of the penalty box about 12 yards out with Meg Castranova picking up the assist.
In the second half, Gettysburg made it 2-0 at 56:01 when Georgia Ferguson scored from the left side after Melissa Seidner's initial shot hit the crossbar. The Bullets pushed their lead to 3-0 exactly five minutes later when Molly Phillips headed in a corner kick off the foot of Lauren Schapiro. At 70:44, Brady found Maddie Heaney to give Gettysburg a four-goal cushion.
Gettysburg had all 31 shots in the match, 15 of which were on target. Gettysburg's tandem of Eliza Gray, Paige Della Badia and Morgan Patullo did not have to make a save in recording the combined shutout. For Washington, sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Barry (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) made 11 saves for her third straight double-digit save total.
Washington returns to action on Wednesday when they step out of conference to entertain Delaware Valley with kickoff slated for 4:00 p.m.
