Potochney Records School-Record Fourth Solo Shutout of Season
LANCASTER, PA -- Washington College sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Potochney (Newark, DE/Newark) recorded her school-record fourth solo shutout of the season as the visiting Shorewomen played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie with host Franklin & Marshall in a Centennial Conference women's soccer game this afternoon in Lancaster, PA.
F&M (2-5-6, 1-3-4 Centennial) held a 6-2 advantage in shots in a scoreless first half. Defense was the name of the game in the second half as well as each team managed just four shots over the final 45 minutes of regulation. The final shot on goal of regulation came off the foot of Washington freshman forward/midfielder Bailey Howard (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) at 84:35.
The first overtime saw each team take two shots, but none of those shots were on goal. F&M recorded all six of the shots taken in the second overtime, pushing nearly all of them wide right of the goal. The final of those came off the foot of Selena Boro at 108:53. The Diplomats did have one shot on goal in the final overtime as Potochney made a save on a shot by Boro at 105:08.
Potochney finished with six saves in the game en route to her fourth shutout. The previous school record of three was originally set by Quin Bowman in 1999 and had been matched three times since, most recently by Tori Ripple last season.
Amanda McGowan made four saves for F&M, which finished the game with an 18-8 advantage in shots.
The Shorewomen (6-7-1, 2-5-1) return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Haverford.
