ALLENTOWN, PA -- Host Muhlenberg College scored three of the game's goals in a span of less than seven minutes en route to a 4-0 Centennial Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Allentown. The Mules improved to 6-6-1 overall and 4-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-6 and 1-4 with the loss.
Muhlenberg held an 11-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but could not find the back of the net as Washington sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Potochney (Newark, DE/Newark) made five saves.
The Mules broke through in the 57th minute, off their second shot of the second half, when CJ Graetzer scored off an assist from Nicole Karsch at 56:48. Muhlenberg scored again just 1:45 later as Natalie Wizel scored off a double assist from Karsch and Maggie Neary to push the lead to 2-0. Potochney left the game after the second goal and was replaced in net by senior Gabby Antalffy (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point), who is usually a defender. Muhlenberg added its third goal at 63:43 when Stephanie Tramutola scored on a long shot from 18 yards out. The Mules tacked on their fourth goal at 81:03 as Jillian Moretto scored off an assist from Gabriela De Frutos.
Potochney still had five saves when she left the game in the 59th minute. Antalffy made three saves after replacing her. Freshman forward/midfielder Bailey Howard (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) recorded three shots in the loss for the Shorewomen.
Amanda Wong made one save in the shutout win for Muhlenberg, which held a 21-4 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in the game.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference home game against Washington Adventist.
