SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host Swarthmore College topped visiting Washington College, 3-0, in a Centennial Conference women's soccer game tonight in Swarthmore, PA. The Garnet improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-5 and 1-3 with the loss.
Swarthmore found the back of the net on its eighth shot of the first half as Haley Most scored off an assist from Melissa Trofa at 25:19. That goal was the only score of the first half despite the Garnet holding an 18-1 advantage in shots in the period.
The Garnet struck quickly in the second half as Most scored again, this time on a breakaway after receiving a midfield pass from Aly Passanante to give Swarthmore a 2-0 lead at 46:57. Swarthmore added its third goal at 51:10 when Most returned the favor by assisting on a goal by Passanante.
Swarthmore finished the game with a 31-4 advantage in shots and recorded all 10 of the game's corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Potochney (Newark, DE/Newark) made 10 saves for Washington in the loss.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Muhlenberg.
