ASTON, PA -- Host Neumann University shut out visiting Washington College, 1-0, this afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer game that included a 105-minute lightning delay.
Washington (1-1) had a 2-0 advantage in shots before the game was stopped due to lightning in the seventh minute. Neumann (2-0) got off two shots of its own before halftime as the game remained scoreless at the intermission.
The Shorewomen tallied the first shot of the second half, but it was the Knights who got on the scoreboard with their third shot when Tonia Russo scored off an assist from Meghan Garsey at 60:48. Each team recorded two shots before Washington got off three shots in the game's final minute, but could not find the equalizer as Neumann held on for the 1-0 win.
In addition to finishing with an 8-5 edge in shots, the Shorewomen recorded all 10 of the game's corner kicks. Neumann goalkeeper Brianna King and Washington sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Potochney (Newark, DE/Newark) each made two saves in the game. Washington sophomore midfielder/forward Suzanne Patinella (Fallston, MD/Maryvale Prep) tallied a game-best three shots.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. game at Goucher.
