Anatlffy Scores Goal for Shorewomen
WESTMINSTER, MD -- Hilary Hanus scored at the 97:30 mark to give host McDaniel College a 2-1 Centennial Conference women's soccer victory in overtime over visiting Washington College in the season finale for both team this afternoon in Westminster, MD.
The Shorewomen (2-13-1 overall, 0-9-1 Centennial) got on the board at 18:26 when junior defender Gabby Antalffy (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) scored off a rebound of a header by senior midfielder Gabby Devaud (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) after a team save by the McDaniel defense. Washington took a 1-0 lead into halftime after holding a 6-3 advantage in shots in the first period.
The Green Terror (3-13, 2-8) evened things up at 53:34 when Hanus sent a long pass from the left end line to Julia Pope, who headed the ball in to knot the game at 1-1. The last shot of regulation came at 87:49 when Washington senior goalkeeper Tori Ripple (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) turned away a shot from Becky Newman. The Green Terror held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the second half.
Hanus scored the game-winner on McDaniel's third shot of overtime, scoring off a through ball sent by Kelly Crawford. The Shorewomen did not record a shot in the extra period.
Ripple made eight saves in the loss for Washington to finish with 377 for her career, the second-most in school history. Kristin Cochran made four saves for McDaniel in the win.
