CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Katie Van Aken scored on the first shot of the game to provide all of the scoring a 1-0 win for 24th-ranked Haverford College over Washington College in a Centennial Conference women's soccer game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
Meg Boyer sent a pass ahead to Van Aken, who shot it past WC senior goalkeeper Tori Ripple (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) to put the Fords (11-1-4, 6-1-2 Centennial) on the board at 5:36. The Fords finished with a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half.
Washington (2-12-1, 0-8-1) recorded five of the first six shots in the second half, but Haverford controlled the game the rest of the way. The Fords had a 10-7 advantage in shots in the period.
Haverford also recorded seven of the game's eight corner kicks. Ripple finished with six saves in the loss for Washington; Robin Chernow had four in the shutout for Haverford.
The Shorewomen will finish their 2011 season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel.
