Devaud Scores, Assists for Washington in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Ursinus College defeated host Washington College, 3-2, in a Centennial Conference women's soccer game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
The Shorewomen (4-6-1, 0-5 Centennial) took the first three shots of the game, but Ursinus (6-5, 3-3) struck first, scoring on its first shot as Jess Porcelan sent a pass ahead in transition to Cecilia Mansson, who scored at 9:08. The Bears made it 2-0 when Sarah Cogswell scored on a point-blank shot in front of the goal off an assist from Alex Doll at 14:26. Washington got on the board at 16:46 when junior midfielder Gabby Devaud (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored from the top of the box, lofting the ball into the upper left corner of the goal. The Bears answered 63 seconds later when Mansson scored her second goal of the game to give Ursinus a 3-1 lead.
Ursinus made that lead hold up until just 49 seconds remained in the contest when Washington senior midfielder Katelyn Malchester (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) scored her first career goal off a rebounding shot off the foot of Devaud.
Junior goalkeeper Mallory Kahn-Johnston (Bethel, CT/Wooster School) made a career-high nine saves in the loss for the Shorewomen. Kara DiJoseph made six saves for Ursinus.
The Bears held an 18-14 advantage in shots in the game.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Gettysburg.
