READING, PA -- Junior forward/midfielder Kira Pancotti (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Briarcliff) scored two goals as visiting Washington College to a 3-1 win over host Penn State-Berks in a non-conference women's soccer game this afternoon in Reading, PA.
The Shorewomen (4-4-1) broke a scoreless tie at the 31:06 mark when senior midfielder Katie Weida (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Country Day) netted a goal into the right-side of the net off a cross from junior midfielder Gabby Devaud (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame).
The score remained 1-0 until the Nittany Lions (5-5) evened things up at 50:20 as Taylor Kreider scored off a deflection on an assist by Alyssa Scheidt. Pancotti scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal at 57:40 off a double assist. Freshman forward/midfielder Heather Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) sent a free kick to sophomore forward Ainsley Boynton (Radnor, PA/Westtown School), who deflected it to Pancotti. Pancotti fired the goal in to the left corner of the net. Pancotti added her second goal at 63:49 to give the Shorewomen a two-goal cushion.
Junior goalkeeper Tori Ripple (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) made three saves for the Shorewomen in the first 71:36. Junior Mallory Kahn-Johnston (Bethel, CT/Wooster School) played the final 18:24 and made one save. Cassidy Dawson made seven saves for Penn State-Berks.
Washington held a 16-15 edge in shots in the game. Each team recorded five corner kicks.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 5:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Muhlenberg.
