Game Interrupted by 90-Minute Lightning Delay
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting McDaniel College posted a 1-0 win over host Washington College today on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium in a Centennial Conference women's soccer game. The game was interrupted by a 90-minute lightning delay.
McDaniel held a 5-4 edge in shots in a scoreless first half. Brittany Baer put the Green Terror on the board when she fired in a loose ball into the opposite side of the goal at 52:58. Baer's goal wound up being the Green Terror's only shot of the second half.
The lightning delay came with 22:17 left in the second half as the game was halted at 5:30 p.m. and did not resume until 7:00 p.m. The Shorewomen got off two shots after play resumed, but could not find the equalizer.
Washington finished with a 10-6 advantage in shots, while McDaniel had a 10-4 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
Leanne Hollinger made three saves for McDaniel in the shutout. Senior Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) played the first half in goal for the Shorewomen and made two saves. Sophomore Tori Ripple (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) played the second half.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Bryn Mawr.
