Shorewomen Blank Gophers, 2-0

Pair of Freshmen Score Goals in Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Freshman defenders Gabby Antalffy (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) and Tara Keefe (Brant Beach, NJ/Southern Regional) each scored a second-half goal to give host Washington College a 2-0 win over visiting Goucher in non-conference women's soccer action tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen evened their 2009 record at 1-1 with the win, while the Gophers fell to 1-2 with the loss.

The Shorewomen controlled the first half but could not capitalize on their 12-4 advantage in shots and a 5-0 margin in corner kicks during the first 45 minutes.

Washington broke through at 65:46 when Antalffy knocked in a corner kick from sophomore defender Stephanie Willingham (Carroll County, MD/South Carroll). The Shorewomen made it 2-0 when Keefe bent a shot into the upper right-hand corner from 20 yards out at 78:48.

Washington finished the game with a 25-6 advantage in shots and recorded all 10 of the game's corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) made one save in the shutout win for Washington. Kellen Matthews made 14 stops in the loss for Goucher.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Neumann.
