Shorewomen Place Second in Women's Varsity Eight
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The 10th-ranked Washington College women's rowing competed in three events at the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia today and its two eights finished second and third, overall, in their respective events.
The Shorewomen's first varsity eight raced in the women's varsity eight, winning its heat in 6:26.75. Division II Philadelphia University was second in 6:41.45, Division I Villanova third in 6:44.59, and Loyola fourth in 6:59.94. In the final, the Shorewomen were second in 6:23.78, finishing behind Division I Drexel, which won in 6:18.17. Fordham was third in 6:28.33, Philadelphia fourth in 6:36.46, Villanova fifth in 6:41.12, and Lehigh sixth in 6:43.39.
The Shorewomen's second varsity eight competed in the women's Division III varsity eight and placed third in 6:48.90. Franklin & Marshall won the event in 6:41.19, Lafayette was second in 6:48.10, Bryn Mawr fourth in 7:04.03, and Haverford fifth in 7:05.88.
The Shorewomen's entry in the women's Division III varsity four finished fourth of five boats in 8:00.72. Lafayette "B" won the race in 7:32.60, Bryn Mawr "A" was second in 7:40.18, Franklin & Marshall third in 7:44.18, and Richard Stockton fifth in 8:37.65.
Junior Christie Phebus (Trappe, Md./Easton) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight, which raced in the women's varsity eight. Junior Kelly Bird (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat stroke, freshman Hannah Sive (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) was in the seven seat, junior Mickey Fili (Sparks, Md./Hereford) sat in the six seat, junior Taira Sullivan (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) was in the five seat, freshman Madeleine Morrissette (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) sat in the four seat, senior Ellie Hilton (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was in the three seat, senior Val DiLisi (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was in the two seat, and junior Ashley Myles (Chester Spring, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was the bow.
Junior Samantha Mason (Preston, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's second varsity eight, which raced in the women's Division III varsity eight. Sophomore Maggie Perry (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) sat stroke, junior Krystal Brostek (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was in the seven seat, and freshman Diana Lucey (Bristol, R.I./St. Mary Academy-Bay View) sat in the six seat, senior Emily Sahadeo (College Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) was in the five seat, freshman Erin Coffman (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) sat in the four seat, freshman Jackie Creitz (Schencksville, Pa./Parkland) was in the three seat, freshman Annie Sniffen (Havertown, Pa./Lower Merion) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Jennie Knapp (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was the bow.
Senior Abby Thomas (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's entry in the women's Division III varsity four. Freshman Danielle Huston Hakey (Waldorf, Md./Calverton School) sat stroke, freshman Megan Prokopius (Chesapeake, Va./Bishop Sullivan) was in the three seat, freshman Hannah Cagle (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) was in the two seat, and sophomore Michaela Martino (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) was the bow.
The Shorewomen return to action next weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships in Lewisberry, Pa.
