CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College head women's lacrosse and women's soccer coach Julika Blankenship recently announced the hiring of Leanne Hollinger as an assistant coach for both sports.
Hollinger was a standout soccer and lacrosse goalkeeper at fellow Centennial Conference school McDaniel College. As a junior, she received All-Centennial Conference honorable mention recognition in lacrosse. As a senior, she was named to the All-Centennial Conference second team for soccer and the All-Centennial Conference second team and an All-Metro Region first team for lacrosse.
Hollinger recorded 515 career saves for the Green Terror's soccer team, including a conference-best 185 as a senior. She also tallied one career goal and one career assist. She was named the team's Unsung Hero as a sophomore and Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.
In lacrosse, Hollinger totaled 357 saves in her career. She was also named that team's Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.
Hollinger graduated from McDaniel College with a B.A. in Exercise Science and a minor in Sports Coaching in May 2010.
The Washington College women's soccer team went 6-10-1 in 2009, enjoying its most successful season in seven years. The Shorewomen return 19 players from last year's team, to go along with seven freshmen, when preseason practice opens later this month.
The Washington College women's lacrosse team went 8-7 in 2010, posting its first winning record in six years. Eighteen players are expected to return from that squad.
