FORT BENNING, Ga. — Washington College freshman trap and skeet student-athlete Will Sears (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) will attend the ACUI B.J. McDaniel Olympic Training Camp at the Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Ga., May 8th-11th.
The Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) is referred to as the "Home of Champions" because the AMU has had more shotgun Olympians than any other organization in the world. Sears will be training by the athletes of the AMU in Olympic trap and skeet. The camp is application-based and selects a limited number of participants. All applicants must have participated in one of the last two ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships and have a current average of 85 out of 100 targets in both American skeet and American trap.
"I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to shoot and learn from some of the best shooters in the world," remarked Sears about his upcoming training. "I hope to learn how to shoot Olympic trap and better myself as a clay target shooter."
Sears was the Washington College trap and skeet team's highest overall performer at the 2019 ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships last month, totalling 487 targets broken across the event's six disciplines. His best individual class finish came in International Trap, where he tied for ninth place in Class A with 89 targets broken.
