Mighty Macs Take Two from Shorewomen

IMMACULATA, Pa. — Host Immaculata University swept both ends of a non-conference softball double-header from visiting Washington College this afternoon. The Mighty Macs won the opener, 6-1, and took the second game, 3-1.

Immaculata 6, Washington College 1 (Game 1)

How It Happened
- Kayla Sponsel hit a two-run home run to left in the bottom of the second to give the Mighty Macs a 2-0 lead.
- The Shorewomen got a run back in the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI single up the middle by Alli Saul.
- Keani Hindle drove in Immaculata's third run with a double to right in the bottom of the fifth.
- Sponsel scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth and Katy Newton followed with a two-run double later in the inning to up the lead to 6-1. 

For the Shorewomen (10-21-1)
- Hitting: Megan Robbins (2-for-2, walk); Saul (hit, RBI)
- Pitching: Rachel Butler (loss, 6 innings, 8 hits, 6 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks, 12 strikeouts)

For Immaculata (21-8-2)
- Hitting: Abigail Carter (3-for-4, 2 runs, stolen base); Sponsel (home run, 2 RBI, 2 runs); Newton (hit, 2 RBI)
- Pitching: Michaela Petito (win, 4 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts); Renee DeAngelis (2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks); Jessica Bormann (1 inning, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks)

How It Happened
- Robbins homered to center field in the top of the first to give the Shorewomen an early 1-0 lead.
- An RBI single for Ashley Rey in the bottom half of the first evened the score at 1-1.
- Sydney Sturgill put the Mighty Macs in front, 2-1, with an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the third.
- Rey drove in an insurance run for the Mighty Macs with a single in the top of the seventh. 

For the Shorewomen (10-22-1)
- Hitting: Robbins (home run, 1-for-2, RBI, run, walk, stolen base); Alyssa Vieira (hit, stolen base)
- Pitching: Cassidy Predale (loss, 5.1 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 6 walks, 5 strikeouts); Butler (0.2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs) 

For Immaculata (22-8-2)
- Hitting: Hindle (2-for-2, 2 walks, run); Carter (2-for-3, run); Rey (2-for-4, 2 RBI)
