KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Washington College softball team won a pair of games in the second day of the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex in a pair of non-conference games against opponents from Massachusetts. The Shorewomen topped #16 Wheaton (Mass.), 5-4, in the second game of the day after besting Lesley in the first contest, 6-2.

How It Happened
-The Shorewomen got a two-out single to center field by Maddie Bennett to plate Paige Briganti for the game's opening run in the top of the first inning.
-Washington pushed the lead to 3-0 with a two-run top half of the second. With one away Allyson Meil scored on a RBI groundout to second off the bat of Briganti and with two outs, Gabrielle Edwards scored on a base hit to left by Elaina DiPrimio.
-The Lynx netted a pair of runs in the last half of the second to cut the lead to 3-2. Abby Henderson scored the team's first run on an error and during the next at bat, Jess Reynolds came home on an error with nobody out. Lesley got the tying run at second with one away, but a strike out and a ground out kept the damage at two runs.
-With two away in the top of the third, Clare Hofstedt singled to center to chase home Trish Langley to make it 4-2.
-Washington increased the lead with two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-2 lead. With one away, Briganti socked a single to center to score Langley to make it 5-2 and with two outs, Bennett worked out a bases loaded walk to plate Erin Spinden to provide the game's final run.
-Lesley got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but a line drive double play to Milly Kawabata in the circle ended the game.
For The Shorewomen (4-5)
-Hitting: DiPrimio (3-for-5, RBI), Briganti (2-for-5, two RBI), Bennett (2-for-3, two RBI, walk), Hofstedt (2-for-4), Alexis Layton (2-for-3), Meredith Maynard (two walks)
-Pitching: Layton (win 1-2, six innings, seven hits, two runs, one earned, zero walks, four strikeouts)
-Washington had 14 hits in the win, worked out six walks and stole four bases.
-The Shorewomen committed three errors in the field.
For Lesley (0-3)
-Hitting: Reynolds (2-for-3, run), Theresa Pereira (2-for-3)
-Pitching: Kaera Wyse (loss 0-2, 14 hits, six runs, six earned, six walks and three strikeouts)
-The Lynx had nine hits in the game and did not commit an error.
-First-ever meeting between the schools in softball.
-WC left 14 on base, while Lesley left six on base.

How It Happened
-The Lyons got onto the scoreboard first in the top half of the first when Marissa Timoteo doubled with one out to drive in Emma Hart.
-In the last of the first, the Shorewomen answered with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. DiPrimio launched her first career homer over the fence in the center to score Briganti with one away to give WC the lead.
-Wheaton would tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third on a one-out sacrifice fly by Caroline Fairbanks to knock in Hart.
-Katelyn Andrade scored on an error by Washington with two outs to give the Lyons a 3-2 lead.
-The lead would not last long as the Shorewomen leveled the game, 3-3, in the last of the fourth when Kerri Estep singled to left with two outs to plate Regan Horan.
-The Shorewomen took a 5-3 lead with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning on a two-out double down the left field line by Hannah Spohn that scored both DiPrimio and Bennett.
-Wheaton would trim the lead to 5-4 when Hart scored on an infield single to shortstop off the bat of Rebecca Seifert with two outs in the top half of the sixth.
-The Lyons had the go ahead run with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Bennett got Erin Deneen to ground out to Edwards at third base to end the ballgame and give WC its second win of the day.
For The Shorewomen (5-5)
-Hitting: DiPrimio (two RBI, two runs, home run), Spohn (two RBI, walk, hit), Clare Hofstedt (2-for-3, walk)
-Pitching: Bennett (win 2-0, three hits, one unearned run, one walk and two strikeouts), Taylor Harcum (four innings, five hits, three runs, two earned, one walk, five strikeouts)
-Washington had seven hits and worked out five walks in the win.
-The Shorewomen had three errors in the field and led to two unearned runs for Wheaton.
For #16 Wheaton (Mass.) (3-3)
-Hitting: Hart (game-high three runs), Timoteo (3-for-3, RBI), Seifert (2-for-3, RBI), Emily Sclaphak (two walks)
-Pitching: Jillian Rocha (loss 0-1, 1 1/3 innings)
-The Lyons had eight hits in the game and drew two walks. They did not commit an error in the field.
-WC left six on base, while Wheaton left 10 stranded.
-The first win over a ranked team for the Shorewomen since an 8-7 win over #5 Cortland exactly two years ago today. Washington and #18 Cortland will play on Friday in Florida.
-First-ever meeting between the two schools in softball. However, Washington did play Wheaton (Ill.) back in 1997.
