WC Sailing Takes 6th at New York Maritime Fall

Gurnell & Vernon Place Second in B Division

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — The Washington College sailing team finished sixth of 15 teams at the New York Maritime Fall Open this weekend.

Washington College Highlights
- Skipper Will Sunkler and crew Ellie Lienert were 10th in A Divison. Sunkler and Lienert had three straight top-six race finishes, placing fourth in in race 5A, fifth in race 6A, and sixth in race 7A.
- Skipper Stewart Gurnell and crew Andrew Vernon placed second in B Division. They finished in the top seven in all 15 of the division's races, winning race 3B, race 7B, and race 15B.

Notes
- Host New York Maritime won the regatta, followed by a pair of Cornell teams in second and third.
- Twelve races in each division sailed on Saturday. The final three races in each division sailed on Sunday. Saturday saw a 8-12 knot southerly breeze. Sunday saw a steady 15-knot easterly. Racing concluded by 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
