Washington College Sailing Takes Second in Own Team Race

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished second of six teams in the Washington College Team Race, held on the Chester River yesterday and today.

Washington finished with a head-to-head record of 10-5, a mark identical to that of third-place Fordham, but won two of its three races versus Fordham to take second place. Bowdoing won the regatta with a 13-2 mark. Cornell was fourth with a 7-8 record, New York Maritime fifth at 4-11, and Pennsylvania sixth at 1-14.  Three full round robins were completed during the regatta.

Sophomore Ryan Bailey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South), junior Sam Fitzgerald (Fairfield, CT/Greens Farms Academy), senior Sam Bedinger (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's), freshman Eric Siegel (Kilmarnock, VA/Christchurch School), and sophomore Eleanor Conroy (West Dennis, MA/Tabor Academy) served as skippers for Washington. Senior Matt Lawler (Alexandria, VA/Christchurch School), sophomore Blair Towers (Goochland, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield, senior Maggie Smith (Annapolis, MD/Garrison Forest), freshman Alex Crawford (Annapolis, MD/Severna Park), and freshman Siobhan Ryan (Aberdeen, NJ/St. John Vianney) were the team's crews. 

The Washington College sailing team returns to action next weekend at Navy's Truxtun Umsted.
