CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The Washington College men's tennis team defeated visiting St. Mary's (Md.) College, 5-0, in a non-conference match played to decision this evening inside Johnson Fitness Center. The Shoremen improved to 7-2 with the win, while the Seahawks fell to 4-7 with the loss.
The Shoremen's first point came at No. 3 doubles as sophomore Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Justin Panepinto (Cary, N.C./Middle Creek) defeated Kyle Van Winter and Nick Ersoy, 8-2. Seniors Dan Boaté (West Chester, Pa./Reed Henderson) and Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) quickly followed with an 8-1 win over Robert Bishop and Mark Hardesty at No. 1. Senior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) capped off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Wyatt Paulishak andConnor McKissick at No. 2.
Washington then won the first two singles matches to finish to complete the 5-0 shutout. Zachary Novick beat Ersoy, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5, while Panepinto defeated Van Winter, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6.
The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with an 11:00 a.m. non-conference match at Salisbury.
