Men's Swimming Season Preview

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The Washington College men's swim team will take to the pool for the 2019-20 season under the direction of first-year head coach Mark Hill. Hill, who served as an assistant coach at Washington College over a decade ago before going on to become a highly-successful Division I assistant coach, inherits a team with a combined eight juniors and seniors on a 12-man roster.

Fourn seniors will provide a strong veteran presence on this year's team. Teague Sauter (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) is the Shoremen's second-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 breaststroke, fourth-fastest ever in the 200 breaststroke, and sixth-fastest ever in the 200 individual medley. He is a former Centennial Conference medalist in the 200 breaststroke and has scored points in both breaststroke events each year at the Centennial Conference Championships. Classmate Jake Brown (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) missed most of last season with an injury after being named his team's MVP as a sophomore. He ranks inside the top four all-time for the Shoremen in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles and is a former 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay medalist at the Centennial Conference Championships. Seth Wrigley (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) ranks sixth all-time for the Shoremen in both butterfly events and has scored points in butterfly events five times at Centennial Conference Championship meets. Dave Rovansek (State College, Pa./State College Area) is among the Shoremen's top 10 fastest swimmers all time in the 500 and 1650 freestyle events and has scored points in both the 1650 freestyle and the 400 individual medley at a Centennial Conference Championship meet.

Defending two-time Centennial Conference 200 backstroke champion Andrew Feeley (Baltimore, Md./Towson) headlines the Shoremen's junior class. He is the school record-holder in that event and ranks second and eighth, respectively, all time for the Shoremen in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley. He was also named the team's MVP last season and has scored points in three individual events at each of the past two Centennial Conference Championship meets.  Brett Edwards (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) is the Shoremen's third-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 breaststroke and fifth-fastest ever in the 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley. He tied for fourth in the 100 breaststroke and placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke at last year's conference championships. Fellow juniors Michael Cebzanov (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) and Matthew Gregory (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) were also among the Shoremen's top breaststrokers a year ago.

Nate Braddock (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) and Joseph Bozzi (Bangor, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) are the Shoremen's two sophomores. Braddock was named the team's Most Improved Swimmer as a freshman and already ranks fifth all-time for the Shoremen in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 1650 and 1000 freestyles. He scored points in both the 1650 and 500 at last year's conference championships. Bozzi picked up points in the 100 butterfly at that championship meet. Jackson Graham (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and Gage Mandrell (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) comprise the Shoremen's freshman class.

Hill is joined on the Shoremen's coaching staff by second-year assistant coach Phil Quick and student assistant Bailey Reigel. Reigel swam for the Shorewomen for three years before injuries curtailed her career. They will guide the Shoremen through a challenging schedule culminating with the 2020 Centennial Conference Championships in late February.
