Regatta Shortened Due to Conditions
CHERRY HILL, N.J. — The Washington College men's rowing team's "A" boat in the men's varsity four won its heat at a shortened Murphy Cup on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J., today. All of the afternoon small-boat races, including the final of the men's varsity four, were canceled due to deteriorating conditions.
How It Happened
- The Shoremen's "A" boat in the varsity four won its heat in 7:56.60 to advance to the final, which went on to be canceled. Villanova was second in the heat in 8:20.75. The other two entries in the heat were scratches. The Shoremen's "B" boat in the varsity four was fourth in its heat in 9:16.74. Bucknell won that heat in 7:22.17, Drexel was second in 7:44.92, and Susquehanna third in 8:36.90. The Shoremen also had a "C" boat entered in the men's varsity four, but that crew did not finish its heat.
- The Shoremen were also scheduled to compete in the novice four, varsity pair, and lightweight four. The novice four was turned away at the start due to conditions and went down as a scratch. The remaining races, including the final of the men's varsity four, were canceled due to deteriorating conditions.
