Zapcic Stops 10 Shots To Match Career-High, Willey Tallies Two Defensive Saves and Brandt Scores For WC

DANVILLE, Ky. – Host Centre scored the game's final four goals to come away with a 4-1 win over visiting Washington College in a non-conference field hockey game on Sunday afternoon at South Campus Field.  The Colonels improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Shorewomen fall to 0-2.

How It Happened
- Washington broke onto the board just 23 seconds into the second quarter as Kailyn Brandt scored off of a rebound of a Kyra Heap shot that Centre's Bella Estes kept out of the goal for a defensive save.
- The lead was short lived though as the Colonels tied it 1:52 later as Savannah Elpers finished off a feed from Meredith Wickheiser to knot it at 1-1.
- Centre took the lead with 5:01 remaining in the second quarter as the initial shot by Wickheiser was blocked.  Alana Pugh ended up with the ball and found Megan Coomes who put the shot into the cage to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
- Shelby Young capped the scoring in the second to give Centre a 3-1 lead into halftime with 76 seconds remaining with Caroline Brotzge notching the helper. 
- Centre extended its lead to 4-1 with 1:16 remaining in the third quarter on a Kara Tipton unassisted tally to provide the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (0-2)
- Scorer: Brandt (goal)
- Goalkeeper: Kayla Zapcic (10 saves, 4 goals allowed, 45:00), Caroline Kral (1 save, 0 goals allowed, 15:00)
- Jessie Willey (two defensive saves) and Madison Hackett (defensive save)
- Washington had four shots and zero penalty corners in the contest.

For Centre (2-0)
- Scorers: Coomes (goal), Elpers (goal), Tipton (goal), Young (goal), Brotzge (assist), Pugh (assist), Wickheiser (assist)
- Goalkeeper: Kristen Mulcahy (1 save, 1 goal allowed, 60:00)
- Estes (defensive save)
- The Colonels had 25 shots and nine penalty corners in the game.

- Zapcic matched her career-best in saves with 10 which she first achieved against Centre last season.
