Zapcic Stops Career-Best 10 Shots

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Centre's Emily Schank scored the only goal of the game with 35:56 left in the first half from Sarah Biggs to give the guests a 1-0 win over host Washington College in a non-conference field hockey game on Sunday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.  The Colonels improve to 8-3 on the year, while the Shorewomen fall to 4-11.

How It Happened
- The Colonels scored at the 9:09 mark of the first half for the lone goal of the contest Biggs' initial shot was blocked, but she grabbed the loose ball and passed it to Schank and she poked home the shot from the right side to give Centre a 1-0 lead.
- Washington had two penalty corners in the first half to try to generate a tying score opportunity, but could not muster a shot off of either corners as the Colonels took a one-goal lead into halftime.
- Centre had three shots on target in the second half, with the final one coming from Mackenzie Conkling with 13:31 left, but her shot was saved by Shorewomen goalkeeper Kayla Zapcic.
- In the final minute, Washington was able to get the ball into the circle, but a Centre defender was able to clear it out with 45 seconds left and the Colonels ran out the clock to come away with the win.

- Washington had zero shots and two penalty corners in the contest.

- The Colonels had 21 shots and nine penalty corners in the game.

- Zapcic was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman of the Game on the broadcast.
- First-ever meeting between the two schools and the first time the Shorewomen have played a team from Kentucky in field hockey.
