Fitness classes run the gamut from Barre to Zumba. Whether you want to achieve a nice long stretch in a Yoga class or raise that heart rate in a Turbo Kick class, we have something for everyone. Everything is first-come, first serve based on equipment and space availability with classes offered in the morning, noon and in the evening.
During each academic semester, fitness classes are free to all students, faculty, staff and 1782 members. Classes are held in the Cain Dance Studio, JFC Dance Studio, JFC Field House or JFC Weight Room. The schedule changes from semester to semester and you can always find the latest schedule here. Any last minute changes will be posted on the Washington College Campus Recreation social media pages.
Tai Chi: Originating in ancient China, tai chi is one of the most effective exercises for health of mind and body. The essential principles include mind integrated with the body; control of movements and breathing; generating internal energy, mindfulness, song (loosening) and jing (serenity).
Beginners Yoga: This class is designed for new yoga practitioners and will focus on the principles of alignment and breathwork. These classes will improve balance, strength, flexibility and promote better body awareness.
Turbo Kick: This heart-pumping cardio class combines elements of kickboxing into a non-combat, cardio class form. You’ll move to fun music with choreographed (easy to learn) punches and kicks. High energy class!
Lunchtime Yoga: This is an all-levels, mid-day Vinyasa flow class. Take a break from the day to enjoy stretching, stengthening, balancing, and breathing routines that wil energize as well as relax your body and mind.
PiYo: This mat-based class (bare feet recommended) helps you build flexibility, strength, and core power while also offering cardio in a low-impact environment. Inspired by movements from yoga and pilates, this class moves at a moderate-to-fast pace in a flow and strength-building environment. Bring a yoga mat if you have one.
Barre 30: We mix elements of Pilates, dance, yoga, and functional training. You’ll gain flexibility, a stronger core, and better posture. We work the muscles in small movements with intentional squeezes and pulses. This is a 30-minute lunchtime crunch class. Bring a yoga mat if you have one.
Kinstretch: Kinstretch is a movement based class focusing on body control, mobility, strength, and resiliency. This class will help improve flexibility, mobility, and joint health & longevity, strength, body awareness & control, and is for anyone who wants to feel better and have better performance or awareness of your body.
Xtreme Hip Hop: This class is a revamp of traditional step aerobics. With routines set to old and new school hip hop, it makes you want to get up and move while getting a great calorie burn! Bring a sticky yoga mat if you have one.
HIIT 30: This class features various high energy interval workouts. Variations always provided, all levels welcome to attend. Each week features a different interval style with full-body movements. This class is 30 minutes.
Buti: Sweat with intention. Buti is dynamic asana fused with primal movement, tribal dance, and deep core engagement. This class combines yoga, tribal dance, and plyometrics into one class. Bring a mat if you have one.
Yoga Flow: Let go of your entire week and move at your own pace with a yoga flow for all levels. We will mindfully stretch, move and breathe. Beginners welcome! Classes will take place in CAIN DANCE STUDIO.
Outside of the academic semester, classes are no longer free of charge to students, faculty, staff or 1782 members. The cost of each class varies for each instructor.
