Ursinus Outlasts Washington In Five
Forget Pounds Down Career-Best 19 Kills

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Three Ursinus players achieved double-doubles as the Bears outlasted Washington College in five sets, 3-2 (28-30, 25-23, 25-12, 22-25, 15-11), on Wednesday evening at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference volleyball action. The Bears improve to 6-12 overall and 1-5 in the conference, while the Shorewomen fall to 11-13 and 0-5 respectively.

In the fifth and final set, Washington led 11-7, before Ursinus rallied for the final eight points of the match to secure the victory. Elizabeth Roth gave the Bears a 12-11 lead on a kill and would score the next two points via the kill, all assisted by Jennifer Fargo. The Bears completed the win on an attack error by the Shorewomen.

In the opening set, Ursinus led 20-10, before Washington racked off 10 straight points to knot the match at 20-20. It was 28-28 when the Shorewomen netted the last two points to win the first set on a kill by freshman outside hitter Alyssa Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) and a service ace by freshman defensive specialist Erin Ficca (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) respectively.

The Bears snapped a 20-20 tie in the second set winning the next three points to take a 23-20 lead and evened the match on an attack error by the Shorewomen to take the set by a 25-23 margin.

After Ursinus cruised to a 25-12 victory in the third set, Washington leveled the match in the fourth set with a 25-22 win. The hosts led 20-14, but the guests scored eight of the next 11 points to cut the deficit to 23-22. After a Shorewomen timeout, the Bears committed a service error to give Washington a 24-22 lead. The Shorewomen got the final point on an attack error by Ursinus.

For the Bears, Mary Kate Wilmoth had a double-double with a match-high 25 kills to go with 11 digs. The other Bears with double-doubles were Roth with 24 kills and 13 digs and Fargo with 49 assists and 21 digs. Gabriella Galleo had a led all players with 27 digs in the win. Megan Mowrer had 15 digs and Kelly Hosier tallied 13 digs for Ursinus.

For the Shorewomen, Forget tallied a career-high in kills with 19 and led all players with a .308 attack percentage. Senior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) had 15 kills and 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the campaign. Senior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) had a team-best 22 digs, while senior defensive specialist Kay May (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) had a personal best 19 digs. Ficca added 12 digs for Washington and junior setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) had 54 assists to lead all players.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match against visiting Gettysburg.
