2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) talled 25 digs against Rowan and 15 digs versus Marymount for a total of 40 digs as Washington College swept Marymount, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-21), in the opening match of the tri-match and dusted Rowan, 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-19), in the finale. In the middle match, Rowan beat Marymount in four sets (25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23). The Shorewomen are now 11-11 on the season, exceeding last year's win total. In the opening match, Washington lead the Saints 11-9 in the first set before busting the set open on a 12-3 run to take a 21-12 lead on its way to a 25-19 win. Marymount (5-12) jumped out to a 15-13 lead in the second set, but the Shorewomen scored five of the next seven points to take a 20-17 lead. The Saints won the next three points to tie it at 20-20, but the Shorewomen closed out the set on a 5-1 run to win 25-21. In the final set, junior setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) snapped a 17-17 tie on a service ace and the Shorewomen would not trail the rest of the way on their way to a 25-21 victory to win the match. The Shorewomen got 11 kills from freshman outside hitter Alyssa Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) to lead all players. Brown totaled 15 digs and Ward dished out a match-best 36 assists. For the Saints, Arielle Childs had 16 digs to lead all players, while Jo Lackus had 14 assists and Chelsea Gates had 13 helpers. Against Rowan (7-11), the Shorewomen rallied from a 25-24 deficit in the opening set by winning the final three points. Washington won the set on a kill from sophomore middle hitter Maria Whitman (Galesville, MD/Southern). In set two, the Profs jumped out to a 7-4 lead before Washington scored six of the next nine points to level the match at 10-10. Whitman snapped the 10-10 tie in the second set on a kill and the Shorewomen never trailed again in the set as the hosts won 25-22. In the third set, Washington won six of the first seven points and never trailed as they completed its second sweep of the day with a 25-19 victory. The Shorewomen got 11 kills each from junior middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/James River) and senior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington). Brown led all players with 25 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Erin Ficca (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) chipped in with 13 digs and senior defensive specialist Kay May (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) added 11 digs. Ward led all players with 43 assists. For the Profs, Alexis Louie had a match-high 14 kills. Chrissy McKay handed out 21 assists and recorded 16 digs for a double-double. Casey Roselle had a team-best 20 digs, while Sarah Betancourt posted 10 digs. In the middle match, Rowan won the first two sets on its way to a four-set victory. Rowan's Theresa Pecoraro had 13 kills to lead all players in the match, while Louie had 12 kills and 13 digs for the Profs. Roselle had a team-best 17 digs, while Samantha Labriola had 11 digs. Betancourt handed out a team-best 14 assists, while McKay dished out 13 assists. For the Saints, three players, Christina LaVigna, Nicole Steward and Danylle Jackson all had 10 kills. Gates had a match-high 18 digs, while Childs and Lackus had 13 and 10 digs each. Lackus handed out 26 assists to lead Marymount. The Shorewomen return to action on Thursday, October 9, when they travel to Muhlenberg for a 7:00 p.m. match in Centennial Conference action. |
