Owls Outlast Shorewomen in Five
Forget Tallies 18 Kills in Loss

BRYN MAWR, PA -- Host Bryn Mawr College won the final two sets to earn a 22-25, 25-18, 25-27, 25-19, 15-11, Centennial Conference volleyball victory over visiting Washington College tonight in Bryn Mawr, PA. The Owls improved to 13-11 and 3-7 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 11-17 and 0-9 with the loss.

In the third set, Bryn Mawr held a 16-10 lead before the Shorewomen scored nine of the next 10 points to take a 19-17 lead. The Owls came back to knot the score at 22-22, 24-24, 25-25, but the Shorewomen won the set on a kill by junior middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/Middle River) and a Bryn Mawr hitting error to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. The Owls then bounced back in the fourth set by jumping out to a 20-9 lead and winning the set on a kill by Lindsey Kieffaber. The Owls then won three of the final four points in the fifth set to pull away for the four-point win in the match-clincher. Katie Merrill scored Bryn Mawr's 14th point and the Owls won the match on a Washington hitting error.

Merrill finished with 16 kills against only three errors in 39 attempts and had four block solos and two block assists for Bryn Mawr, while Emma Wisniewski-Barker finished with 41 assists and a match-high 20 digs. Katie Solok added 19 digs, while Hannah Davis had eight kills and 12 digs. Elizabeth Sinclair served five aces and had 10 digs for the Owls.

Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) pounded down 18 kills in the loss for Washington, one off her career high. Junior setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) added 49 assists, while senior defensive specialist Kay May (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) had a team-best 14 digs. Canada finished with 10 kills and senior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) tallied six kills and 12 digs.

The Shorewomen finish their season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Dickinson.
