Sea Gulls Foil Shorewomen, 7-2
Finnegan & Kelley Win in Singles

SALISBURY, MD -- Host Salisbury University won a batttle of regionally-ranked women's tennis teams this afternoon with a 7-2 win over Eastern Shore rival Washington College. The Sea Gulls, ranked 10th in the Atlantic South region, improved to 13-4 with the win, while the Shorewomen, ranked 11th, fell to 13-4 with the loss.

The Sea Gulls jumped out to a 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches. Jackie Burr and Anna Marie Kable, ranked 11th in the region in doubles, beat freshmen Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) and Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy), 8-5, at No. 1. Kelly Fahrner and Rachel Iosue downed freshman Gabie Batista (Sykesville, MD/Century) and junior Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School), 8-1, at No. 2, while Angela Tenaglia and Robyn Wendell defeated sophomore Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School) and senior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien), 9-7, at No. 3.

Salisbury won the first two singles matches to finish to clinch the victory as Burr, ranked 17th in the region in singles, bested Marshall, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 and Fahrner topped Barston, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3. Kelley put Washington on the board with a 6-1, 6-2, win against Wendell at No. 5. Tenaglia then topped Batista, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6, while Kable beat Palmer, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4. Finnegan scored the Shorewomen's second point with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6, win against Iosue, the region's 23rd-ranked singles player, at No. 2.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against McDaniel.
