Shorewomen Handle Green Terror, 9-0
Kelley Wins, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College cruised past visiting McDaniel College, 9-0, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shorewomen improved to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play with the win, while the Green Terror fell to 1-11 and 0-9 with the loss.

The Shorewomen swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Senior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) and sophomore Kristine Depew (Downingtown, PA/Westtown School) defeated Emily Taylorand Brittany Starlings, 8-4, at No. 1. Freshman Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School) topped Jamie Latham and Kristina Shavirov, 8-0, at No. 2, while freshmen Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) and Gabie Batista (Sykesville, MD/Century) bested Jessica Gelber and Devan Hamric, 8-0, at No. 3.

Washington increased the lead to 4-0 when Kelley defeated Hamric, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. The Shorewomen clinched the match with Finnegan's 6-1, 6-0, victory over Taylor at No. 1. Freshman Katy Ulrich (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) then posted a 6-0, 7-5, win against Gelber at No. 6. Marshall added a 6-1, 6-2, win against Starlings at No. 2, while Barston beat Latham, 8-1, at No. 3. Depew completed the sweep with a 9-8(8) win over Shavirov at No. 5.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Dickinson.
