#10 Blue Jays Defeat Shorewomen for CC Title

BALTIMORE, MD -- Host Johns Hopkins University, ranked 10th in Division III and fourth in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Washington College, 5-0, in the Centennial Conference Women's Tennis Championship today inside the Perring Athletic Club in Baltimore, MD. The Blue Jays improved to 13-3 on the year and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 17-5 with the loss.

The Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Carolyn Warren and Brittany Matava, the seventh-ranked doubles team in the region, bested WC freshmen Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) and Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy), the region's ninth-ranked tandem, 8-5, at No. 1. Anita Bhamidipati and Yasmine Elamir, the region's 15th-ranked doubles team, downed freshman Gabie Batista (Sykesville, MD/Century) and junior Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School), 8-1, at No. 2, while Ellen Berlinghof and Abby Dwyer were 8-1 winners over sophomore Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School) and senior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) at No. 3.

Hopkins then won the first two singles matches to finish the complete the victory. Willenborg defeated Barston, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3, while Matava beat Palmer, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4.
