#21 Blue Jays Bounce Shorewomen, 9-0
Finnegan Wins Second Set At No. 2 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visting Johns Hopkins University, the 21th-ranked team in Division III and the sixth-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, defeated host Washington College, 9-0, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match this afternoon at the Schottland Tennis Center. The Blue Jays improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in conference matches with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 9-2 and 1-1 with the loss.

Hopkins swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Carolyn Warren and Brittany Matava, ranked 10th in the Atlantic South region in doubles bested the WC freshmen duo of Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) and Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) 8-2 in No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 team of Anita Bhamidipati and Yasmine Elamir, bested junior Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) and Gabie Batista (Sykesville, MD/Century) by a score of 8-0. At No. 3 doubles, the tandem of Ellen Berlinghof and Yasmine Elamir got the better of senior Kate Barston (Dairen, CT/Darien) and sophomore Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School), 8-1.

In singles, Hopkins swept all the singles except for No. 2. At No. 2 singles, Bhamidipati, the 15th ranked player regionally, won 6-1 in the first set over Finnegan, but Finnegan returned the favor in the second set, winning by the same score. In the third and final set, the two played a super-breaker which Bhamidipati prevailed by a score of 10-5. At No. 1, Warren, ranked 11th in the region, downed Marshall 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 Mallory Willenberg bested Palmer 6-1, 6-0 and Matava's 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles clinched the win for Hopkins as she bested Kelley. No. 5 singles went to Dwyer who topped Barston 6-0, 6-1, while at No. 6 singles Elamir won over Batista in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 11:30 p.m. Centennial Conference road match against Gettysburg.
