Shorewomen Impound Fords, 6-3
Palmer Clinches Match with Win at No 3 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College, the 12th-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, downed visiting Haverford College, 6-3, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match today in Chestertown, MD. The doubles matches were played outside at the Schottland Tennis Center, while the singles matches were played inside the Johnson Lifetime Fitness Center.

The Shorewomen (11-2, 3-1 Centennial) won the first two doubles matches to finish as freshmen Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) and Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) topped Katie Wettick and Karen Lavi, 8-3, at No. 1 and sophomore Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School) and senior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) defeated Jaclyn Porter and Christina Bradley, 8-5, at No. 3. The Fords (4-4, 3-1) got on the board at No. 2 doubles where Katie Drooyan and Helen Fisun pulled out a 9-8(4) victory against WC freshman Gabie Batista (Sykesville, MD/Century) and junior Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School).

Washington increased the lead to 3-1 when Marshall completed a 6-2, 6-3, victory over Lavi at No. 2 singles. The Fords got back to within a point via Wettick's 6-4, 6-2, win against Finnegan at No. 1. Kelley gave Washington a 4-2 advantage with a 6-2, 6-0, win against Porter at No. 4. Palmer clinched the match for the Shorewomen with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-7, win over Fisun at No. 3. Barston added a 6-0, 6-3, win over Drooyan at No. 5. Fumiko Shogase gave the Fords their third and final point with an 8-5 win against Batista at No. 6.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Franklin & Marshall.
