Shorewomen Cage Cougars, 8-1
Marshall & Finnegan Roll to 8-0 Win at No. 1 Doubles

DENVER, CO -- The Washington College women's tennis team improved to 7-1 on the season with an 8-1 win over Division II Colorado Christian today in a match played at Metro State College in Denver. Freshmen Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) and Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles in the victory.

Marshall and Finnegan defeated Sara Howard and Calli Friesen at No. 1. Sophomore Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School) and junior Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) added an 8-3 win over Lexy Stevens and Alyssa Johnson at No. 2. Colorado Christian (0-9) defaulted at No. 3 doubles.

Marshall was a 6-0, 6-3, winner at No. 2 singles against Stevens. Palmer added a 6-2, 6-2, victory over Friesen at No. 3, while Kelley downed Johnson, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 and freshman Gabie Batista (Sykesville, MD/Century) bested Whitney Hawkins, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5. Howard picked up a win at No. 1 for the Cougars when Finnegan retired leading, 2-0. Colorado Christian defaulted at No. 6 singles.

The Shorewomen open their home schedule one week from today with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match against Bryn Mawr and a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match against Trinity (DC).
