2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College defeated Eastern Shore rival Salisbury University, 5-4, in a non-conference women's tennis match this afternoon inside of the Johnson Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shorewomen evened their 2008 record at 1-1 with the win, while the Sea Gulls fell to 1-2 with the loss. The Shorewomen took a 2-1 lead after doubles play by winning at the bottom two spots. Junior Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and junior Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) were 8-3 winners against Robyn Wendell and Hannah Parsons at No. 2, while senior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) cruised to an 8-1 win over Kelly Fahrner and Kristen King at No. 3. Washington went up, 4-2, after winning two of the first three singles matches to finish. Daciek defeated Anna Marie Kable, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1, while Hossick was a 6-1, 6-1, winner against Wendell at No. 4. Fahrner pulled the Sea Gulls to within a point by winning, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 2, but a 6-0, 6-0 win by Bull over Parsons at No. 5 clinched the match for the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen return to action March 9th with an 11:00 a.m. match at Division I Maryland-Eastern Shore. |
