2008 HILTON HEAD, SC -- The Washington College women's tennis team blanked Missouri Valley College, an NAIA opponent, 9-0, in a match played in Hilton Head, SC, today. The Shorewomen improved to 4-1 on the season with their fourth straight win and shut out their second opponent in three matches. Senior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) picked up an 8-3 win over Altanzul Gombo and Nicki Erickson at No. 1 doubles. Junior Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and junior Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) blanked Helene Sallas and Shruti Bedi, 8-0, at No. 2, while junior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) and freshman Kristine Depew (Downingtown, PA/Westtown School) won by an identical score over Amanda Whited and Lindsay Tworek at No. 3. In singles, Daciek downed Gombo, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1, Hossick beat Erickson, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2, and Bull downed Sallas, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3. Palmer added a 6-0, 6-1, win over Bedi at No. 4, junior Rebecca Davis (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) handled Tworek, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5, and freshman Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School) defeated Jayme Pettigrew, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with an 11:30 a.m. match against Mount Union in Hilton Head. |
