2007 SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- The Washington College women's tennis team split a pair of matches played 160 miles apart on Saturday. The Shorewomen (2-3), ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region, opened the day in Lexington, VA, where they fell to Washington and Lee, ranked second in the region and third in all of Division III, 8-1, in the morning. Washington then headed to Shepherdstown, WV, where they bested Division II Shepherd, 9-0, in the afternoon. Against W&L, Washington picked up its lone point of the match at No. 1 doubles where junior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and freshman Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) defeated Katie Bouret and Rebecca Timmis, 8-5. Daciek also turned in the Shorewomen's most competitive performance in singles, falling to Kelly Will, 6-2, 7-6(1), at No.1. Against Shepherd, freshman Sarah Macht (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) was an 8-5 winner at No. 1 singles, while junior Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) won by an 8-2 count at No. 2. Daciek and Foster posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and sophomore Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) posted an 8-2 in at No. 2 doubles. Washington won No. 3 doubles and No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles by default. The Shorewomen do not play another match for two weeks, returning to action March 24th with their Centennial Conference opener - an 11:00 a.m. match at Ursinus. |
