Washington Competes at Tiger Classic
Shorewomen Battle Division I & II Competition

TOWSON, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team won three singles matches and two doubles matches at the Tiger Classic, hosted by Towson University on Friday and Saturday. The Shorewomen faced competition from Division I schools St. Joseph's (PA), Mount St. Mary's, and Loyola and Division II school Shepherd.

In Friday's matches, freshman Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) accounted for the Shorewomen's lone victory, defeating Erika Guers of St. Joseph's, 6-4, 6-4, in singles. Palmer also teamed with sophomore Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) to record the Shorewomen's most competitive doubles match on Friday. Palmer and Barston fell to Ashley Wentzel and Christina Pace of Mount St. Mary's, 6-2, 7-6(4).

On Saturday, sophomore Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and sophomore Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) scored a 6-0, 6-2, doubles win over Jennifer Zutz and Stefanie Menzano of Loyola. Bull later teamed with Barston to notch a 6-1, 6-3 doubles win against Debbie Jackson and Lauren Jackson of Shepherd. Also on Saturday, Hossick recorded a 6-3, 6-0, singles win against Shepherd's Meredith Scaggs, while Palmer picked up her second singles win of the weekend by defeating Shepherd's Erin Wells, 6-1, 6-2.

The Washington College women's tennis team will compete at the ITA Southeast Regionals at Mary Washington September 23rd-25th.
