2007 SKILLMAN, NJ -- Three Washington College women's tennis players have been named Division III Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place), Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo), and Sarah Macht (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) each earned the distinction. The Shorewomen also earned an ITA All-Academic Team Award. Bull, a rising junior, went 10-9 in singles last year, primarily at No. 2. She was named her team's Most Valuable Player. Sawada, who graduated from Washington College in May, played primarily at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles. Macht, a rising sophomore, shared her team's Most Improved Player award. Sawada is a three-time Scholar-Athlete, while Bull is a repeat selection. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year). The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
