2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College topped visiting McDaniel College, 9-0, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match today at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shorewomen, ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region, improved to 6-7 overall and 4-2 in Centennial play with the win, while the Green Terror slipped to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in conference play with the loss. The Shorewomen cruised through doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Junior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and freshman Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), the 27th-ranked doubles team in the region, recorded an 8-1 win at No. 1, sophomore Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and sophomore Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) were 8-0 winners at No. 2, and sophomore Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) posted an 8-1 win at No. 3. In singles, Daciek, ranked 31st in the region, was a 6-0, 6-0, winner at No. 1, Bull posted a 6-0, 6-0, victory at No. 2, and Foster recorded a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 3. Sophomore Rebecca Davis (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) added a 6-3, 6-1, win at No. 4, Hossick, ranked 52nd in the region, was an 8-3 winner at No. 5, and freshman Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) recorded an 8-0 victory at No. 6. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Johns Hopkins, the 15th-ranked team in Division III. |
