#15 Hopkins Trumps WC in CC Semis, 5-1
Bull & Barston Win at No. 2 Doubles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host and top-seeded Johns Hopkins defeated visiting Washington College, 5-1, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis semifinal match today in Baltimore, MD. The Blue Jays, ranked 15th in Division III and fifth in the Atlantic South region, improved to 15-3 and advanced to Sunday's championship match with the win, while the Shorewomen, ranked 12th in the region, finish their season with a 9-10 record following the loss.

Hopkins took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Ellen Berlinghof and Tanya Gulnik were 8-2 winner at No. 3 and Brittany Matava and Anita Bhamidipati, the third-ranked doubles team in region, posted an 8-5 win at No. 1. Washington sophomores Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) posted an 8-5 win at No. 2.

The Blue Jays won the first three singles matches to clinch the victory. Gulnik was a 6-2, 6-1, winner at No. 4, Becky Busch was a 6-4, 6-1, winner at No. 5, and Berlinghof recorded a 6-1, 6-2, victory at No. 6.
