2007 HAVERFORD, PA -- The Washington College women's tennis team, ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region, bested host Haverford College, the region's 21st-ranked team, 6-3, in a Centennial Conference match this afternoon in Haverford, PA. The Shorewomen improved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Fords fell to 2-7 and 0-3 with the loss. Washington freshman Sarah Macht (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) and freshman Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) led doubles off with an 8-5 win at No. 3. Junior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and freshman Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), ranked 27th in the Atlantic South in doubles, gave the Shorewomen a 2-0 lead with an 8-6 victory at No. 1. Sophomore Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and sophomore Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) completed the Washington sweep of doubles with a 9-8(5) win at No. 3. Bull pushed the advantage to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-1, victory at No. 2 singles. Haverford cut Washington's lead to 4-2 with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, but Daciek, ranked 31st in the region in singles, clinched the match victory for the Shorewomen with a 6-4, 6-2, win at No. 1. Palmer added a 6-2, 7-6(4) victory for Washington at No. 4 and the Fords picked up the win at No. 3 to round out the scoring. The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Franklin & Marshall. |
