Shorewomen Stuff Owls, 6-3
Foster Clinches Match with Win at No. 3 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College, the ninth-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, bested visiting Bryn Mawr, 6-3, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match Wednesday inside the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shorewomen improved to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play with the win, while the Owls fell to 3-10 and 1-4 with the loss.

Washington junior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and freshman Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), ranked 27th in the region in doubles, led off doubles with an 8-2 victory at No. 1. Sophomore Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and sophomore Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) added an 8-3 win at No. 2, while Bryn Mawr's Marie Sager and Melissa Mansh notched an 8-6 win at No. 3 to make the score 2-1 in favor of Washington heading into singles.

Daciek, ranked 31st in the region in singles, pushed the advantage to 3-1 when she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0, win in just over a half-hour at No. 1 singles. Bull followed with a 6-0, 6-0, win of her own at No. 2 to give the Shorewomen a 4-1 lead, but Sager posted a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 4 to keep the Owls alive, trailing 4-2. Foster clinched the win for the Shorewomen by completing a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, victory at No. 3. Junior Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) added a 6-1, 6-1, win for Washington at No. 5, while April Lee accounted for the final Bryn Mawr point with a 4-6, 6-2, 11-9, win at No. 6.

The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against McDaniel.
