18, 2006 FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- Host University of Mary Washington, ranked 25th in Division III and fifth in the Atlantic South region, defeated Washington College, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South, 7-2, in a non-conference women's tennis match today in Fredericksburg, VA. Sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) posted singles wins in the loss for the Shorewomen (5-3). Mary Washington took a 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping doubles. Katie Miglin and Tallie Fugate, 11th in doubles in the Atlantic South, won a battle of regionally-ranked doubles teams by defeating Daciek and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), ranked 10th in the Atlantic South, 8-5, at No. 1. Daciek, the region's 16th-ranked singles player, defeated Miglin, the region's 23rd-ranked singles player, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Leeser was a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 winner over Gayle Smith at No. 5. The Shorewomen return to action April 1st with an 11:00 a.m. Centennial Conference match at Gettysburg. |
