Shorewomen Top Sea Gulls, 7-2
WC to Play in CC Semifinals Saturday

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region, won two doubles matches and five singles matches in a 7-2 non-conference women's tennis victory over visiting Salisbury, the 11th-ranked team in the region, this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shorewomen improved to 15-5 with the win, while the Sea Gulls fell to 10-6 with the loss.

Senior Lyndsey Beidle (Linthicum, MD/North County) and freshman Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) gave Washington a 1-0 lead with an 8-4 win over Robyn Wendell and Missy Wallace at No. 3 doubles. Salisbury tied the score when Erika Mitry and Jenny Rosler, the 12th-ranked doubles team in the Atlantic South, defeated Washington sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), the region's 11th-ranked doubles team. Sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) and freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) put the Shorewomen ahead, 2-1, by completing an 8-4 win over Sammie Smiles and Anna Marie Kable at No. 2.

Leeser led off singles with a 6-2, 6-4, win over Wendell at No. 5 to give Washington a 3-1 lead. Daciek, ranked 24th in the region in singles, bested Mitry, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, to make it 4-1 in favor of the Shorewomen. Rosler cut the lead to 4-2 with a 7-6(10), 6-1, win over Hossick at No. 2. Bull clinched the match for the Shorewomen with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, win at No. 3. Foster added a 7-6(1), 6-0, victory against Kable at No. 4, while freshman Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) defeated Wallace, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday when they take on Muhlenberg in a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference Semifinal match at Swarthmore.
