Shorewomen Ace Monarchs, 9-0
Team Effort Lifts Shorewomen to Victory

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team defeated visiting Methodist College, 9-0, in a non-conference South Atlantic regional match this afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shorewomen improved to 4-1 in dual matches in 2005-06, while the Monarchs fell to 4-3.

At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), ranked 15th in the Atlantic South region in doubles, bested Leighton Bull and Tiffany Tucker, 8-4. Freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and freshman Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) defeated Julie Angrick and Jenny Smith, 8-1, at No. 2. Sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) and freshman Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) posted an 8-6 victory at No. 3 over Lauren Hulse and Shannon Vivian.

Daciek, ranked 20th in the region, defeated Tucker, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to put the Shorewomen up 5-0, securing the WC victory. Bull, in her first match at No. 2 singles this season, rallied to defeat Smith in a match that went to a super tie-breaker, 1-6, 7-5 (10-7). Foster beat Angrick, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3. Lesser was a 6-0, 6-2, winner over Hulse at No. 4, while Hossick posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Vivian at No. 5. Sophomore Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) captured a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 6 over Courtney Vail.

The Shorewomen will travel to Florida to take on Florida Institute of Technology and Stetson on March 14th at 1 and 6 p.m., respectively.
