3, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team won its first match of the spring, defeating visiting Meredith College, 9-0, in a non-conference South Atlantic regional match this afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shorewomen improved to 1-1 in dual matches in 2005-06, while the Angels fell to 1-4. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), ranked 15th in the Atlantic South region in singles, bested Meredith Roberson and Sydney Williford, 8-1. Freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and freshman Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) defeated Leigh Smith and Holt Gooch, 8-2, at No. 2. Sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) and freshman Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) posted an 8-1 victory at No. 3 over Caitlin Dillon and Jessie Hardee. In singles, Daciek, ranked 20th in the region, defeated Smith, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1. Foster bested Roberson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2, while Bull beat Williford, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3. Hossick was a 6-0, 6-0, winner over Gooch at No. 4, while Leeser posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Dillon at No. 5. Sophomore Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) finished singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6. The Shorewomen will host Centennial Conference foe Johns Hopkins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. and Piedmont at 12:00 p.m. |
